Department
The
Arts Department has been versatile with interests in many phases
of the arts - special trips to museums, art shows and historic
places are always supported by TTWC members. TTWC
members have held craft classes and many members have won
numerous ribbons for entries in the District VIII Arts Festival
held every year. The Temple Terrace Community Arts
Festival is held every year at
Riverhills
Park
in November. Many of the Chairmen of this Department
have also served on the Festival Board. Many club projects
and programs have had the benefit of original artistic designs
and calligraphy for invitations, resolutions, scrapbooks and
special gifts and several ladies from TTWC have
contributed their artistic talents to these endeavors. TTWC’s
chorus called ‘The Allegros’ was organized in 1981 and the
same director has led the group since that time. This group
contributes hours of entertainment for club affairs, principally
during the holidays. Starting with seven members, there are now
sixteen women in the group who visit hospitals and nursing homes
to sing. Special programs at Christmas and Easter bring great
joy to many elderly and disabled persons.
TTWC Members have also volunteered to help with the
Candlelight Tour of Homes sponsored by the Temple Terrace
Preservation Society. TTWC is a sustaining member
of the Tampa Museum of Art and The Masque Club of Temple
Terrace. A contribution was even made for a chair at the new
Tampa Performing Arts Center. When the Florida Orchestra
performed an outdoor concert in Sunday in 1994 on the First
Fairway of the Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club TTWC
not only raised $1,280 for the Orchestra but also served
refreshments to members of the Orchestra and their families
during intermission. TTWC members served on the Mayor’s
Coordination Committee for this project. Approximately 5,000
people attended this special event.
